Forget what you remember from 2013. The golden age of pirates is returning on July 9, and Ubisoft is not just giving us better graphics. They have completely rebuilt the Caribbean experience. Edward Kenway is back. As we already saw in the leaked 30-minute gameplay footage the new Anvil engine makes the tropical islands and ocean waves look incredibly realistic.

But a pretty game is not enough. Ubisoft has injected hours of new content and completely fresh mechanics into the adventure. Whether you are a veteran returning to the sea or a brand-new player, here is why Black Flag Resynced is going to feel like a completely new game.

1. True Freedom of Movement (and Ziplines!)

Running across rooftops is much faster now. For the first time in this setting, the developers have added Ziplines all over the Caribbean cities. This means you can slide from high towers to the ground in seconds, escaping enemies or crossing long distances with style. You can also manually control your jumps to find clever shortcuts.

2. Dive Anywhere You Want

In the original game, you could only swim underwater in very specific locations using a diving bell. That limitation is gone. Thanks to the new "Dive Anywhere" feature, you can jump off your ship and explore the ocean floor in almost any location, hunting for hidden treasure chests among the sharks.

3. A Smarter, Deadlier Pirate

Combat and stealth are totally completely redesigned. If you prefer a quiet approach, Edward can now crouch anywhere on the map to stay hidden.

You also get an arsenal of new tools: you can use Smoke Bombs to escape bad situations, or shoot Sleep and Berserk Darts from a blowpipe to safely put guards to sleep (or make them fight each other). If you get into a sword fight, blocking perfectly will let you chain up to four brutal takedowns in a row. Plus, you get the famous Rope Dart very early in the game, allowing you to pull enemies toward you.

4. Dynamic Hurricanes and Weather

Sailing your ship, the Jackdaw, is dangerous again. The game uses a new weather system called Atmos. This means you will experience completely random, realistic weather changes. A calm, sunny afternoon can instantly transform into a terrifying hurricane with rogue waves and waterspouts that can literally destroy your ship if you don't steer carefully.

5. Ship Pets and New Officers

Yes, you read that right: you can now have a pet on the Jackdaw! While your pet keeps you company, three brand-new recruitable Officers will give your ship massive combat upgrades.

For example, recruiting "The Padre" allows your ship to perform a devastating ram dash, while another officer lets you manually target your mortar bombs for massive damage. Also, the beloved Kenway's Fleet minigame returns, letting you send captured enemy ships on missions to earn passive income.

6. Build Your Own Pirate Island

Your personal base, Great Inagua, is much more detailed. You can invest your stolen treasure to upgrade the island. Build a General Store to unlock legendary weapons, or create a Fisherman's Wharf that automatically generates money for you while you are out exploring.

7. Unseen Story Chapters

Finally, the campaign features hours of new narrative content. Ubi soft added brand-new side quests featuring legendary pirates like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. There is also a completely new endgame chapter called "A World Without Gold" that will wrap up Edward's story in a way we have never seen before.
